Of the 178 million people who streamed music in 2025, only about <b>8% <\/b>were paying for it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Of the free music streamers surveyed, <b>64%<\/b> said they were willing to pay if their preferred service eliminated its free tier entirely, but only under certain conditions. At least <b>42%<\/b> said a low price point would bring them over, while <b>38%<\/b> said they would pay if all other free options disappeared. Of those free streaming customers, <b>40%<\/b> said they would pay to remove ads, <b>33% <\/b>said they would pay for full playback control, while <b>31%<\/b> said they would be willing to pay for lossless or high-quality audio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">However, <b>36% <\/b>of free streamers said they would not pay even if their preferred service dropped its free tier. Of that group, <b>66%<\/b> said they would shift to YouTube,<b> 25%<\/b> said they would turn to pirated sources, and <b>19% <\/b>said they would stop listening on apps.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The report also showed that Indian music revenue grew to <b>\u20b959 billion<\/b> ($677m) in 2025 from <b>\u20b953 billion <\/b>($633m) in 2024. Music listeners in India streamed roughly 6 trillion songs in 2025, up 15% YoY, with the vast majority of those streams being free or ad-supported. Others like <strong>Spotify<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/welcome-to-spotify-supremium-higher-priced-india\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">introduced<\/a> new subscription tiers and features including lossless streaming.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Sony Music India\u2019s Vinit Thakar <\/b>said: \u201cIndia\u2019s music industry is pivoting from ad-supported growth to a subscription-led monetization model, anchored by premium differentiation. The scalable expansion of artist services will be essential to delivering sustained, long-term value for artists, fans, and stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIndia\u2019s music industry is pivoting from ad-supported growth to a subscription-led monetization model, anchored by premium differentiation. The scalable expansion of artist services will be essential to delivering sustained, long-term value for artists, fans, and stakeholders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><b>Vinit Thakar, Sony Music India<\/b><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p1\">Meanwhile, EY and FICCI noted in the report that <b>Wynk<\/b>, <b>Resso<\/b> and <b>Hungama<\/b> all ceased operations in India over the past 18 months, concentrating the market for <b>Gaana<\/b>, <b>Spotify<\/b> and other players like <b>JioSaavn<\/b>, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/indias-jiosaavn-hits-500m-downloads-on-google-play-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hit <b>500 million<\/b> downloads<\/a> in December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The report forecasts paid subscribers to reach <b>28 to 30 million<\/b> by 2028, roughly double the<b> 14.4 million <\/b>base in 2025.
