Primary Wave Music has entered into a partnership with the estate of Phil Lynott, co-founder and songwriter of iconic Irish rock band Thin Lizzy.<\/p>\n
The partnership will see the music company work alongside the estate on Lynott\u2019s interest in his music publishing catalog, as well as his recordings.<\/p>\n
Primary Wave said that it will provide marketing support across Lynott\u2019s catalog which includes all songs written by him over the course of his two-decade long career, in addition to his recording interests, which includes his work with Thin Lizzy<\/strong>, in addition to his solo work and collaborations with other artists.<\/p>\n The estate will also now have access to Primary Wave\u2019s licensing\/sync, content, and branding teams.<\/p>\n Lynott penned and recorded hit songs such as The Boys Are Back In Town<\/em>, Dancing in the Moonlight<\/em>, Whiskey In The Jar<\/em>\u00a0and others.<\/p>\n Released in 1972, Lynott\u2019s cover of Whiskey In The Jar<\/em>\u00a0became a breakthrough hit.<\/p>\n Dancing in the Moonlight<\/em>\u00a0was released five years later, appearing on the band\u2019s Bad Reputation<\/em> album. The song climbed the charts, reaching the Top 20 on the UK singles chart. Several bands, including Smashing Pumpkins, have since covered the single.<\/p>\n The Boys Are Back In Town<\/em>\u00a0is probably the band\u2019s most well-known song. It was the first single off the band\u2019s Jailbreak<\/em> album and was released in 1976. The song soared to the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, reached No.1 in Ireland, and went Top 10 in both Canada and the UK.<\/p>\n Of the partnership, the Estate said: \u201cWe are absolutely thrilled to be partnering Primary Wave and very much look forward to working together continuing the legacy of Philip Lynott.\u201d<\/p>\n “Phil was an unbelievable musician, songwriter, and poet. I am delighted and honored that the estate has entrusted Primary Wave Music to continue his legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n Elsewhere at Primary Wave, the company struck a partnership with Grammy winner Patti LaBelle last month.<\/p>\n In July, the company struck a music rights deal<\/a> with the Estate of legendary English blues rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, Peter Green.<\/p>\n In June, Primary Wave partnered with<\/a>\u00a0Grammy-nominated band the Cars.<\/p>\n In March, the company\u00a0acquired<\/a>\u00a0a stake in the Biggie Smalls catalog, which was reported to have valued the artist\u2019s estate at $200 million.<\/p>\n Primary Wave\u2019s portfolio also includes rights to works by\u00a0Bob Marley<\/a>,\u00a0Whitney Houston<\/a>,\u00a0Stevie Nicks<\/a>,\u00a0<\/b>and\u00a0Luther Vandross<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n The company\u2019s other recent moves include\u00a0signing<\/a>\u00a0a marketing and publishing administration deal with Grammy-winning songwriter and performer\u00a0Jimmy Webb<\/b>, along with deals with the estate of country and folk singer-songwriter\u00a0Jerry Jeff Walker<\/b><\/a>, Grammy-winning violinist\u00a0Itzhak Perlman<\/strong><\/a>, and\u00a0Feels So Good\u00a0<\/i>composer\u00a0Chuck Mangione<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n Primary Wave has also recently acquired the catalog of\u00a0Nuno Bettencourt<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0of 90s rock band\u00a0Extreme<\/strong>; inked a\u00a0publishing partnership<\/a>\u00a0with alt-rock band\u00a0The Spin Doctors<\/strong>; and signed a\u00a0music rights deal<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a0Neil Finn<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0Crowded House<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The company also\u00a0struck a deal<\/a>\u00a0for the recorded, publishing, brand and name and likeness rights of\u00a0The Village People<\/strong>\u00a0of\u00a0YMCA<\/em>\u00a0fame; a\u00a0catalog deal<\/a>\u00a0with the estate of songwriter and musician\u00a0P.F.
