{"id":161925,"date":"2023-08-22T18:42:42","date_gmt":"2023-08-22T17:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/?post_type=people&#038;p=161925"},"modified":"2023-08-22T18:43:49","modified_gmt":"2023-08-22T17:43:49","slug":"bob-valentine","status":"publish","type":"people","link":"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/people\/bob-valentine\/","title":{"rendered":"Bob Valentine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bob Valentine is a music business veteran and, since July 2023, the CEO of Concord.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to becoming CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/concord.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Concord<\/a>, Valentine was President of the Nashville-headquartered music company, which operates across music publishing, recorded music, and theatricals.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Bob Valentine: Career history<\/h6>\n<p>Bob Valentine joined Norman Lear\u2019s Act III Communications in 1999 when it acquired Concord Records.<\/p>\n<p>While working for Lear and his business partner, Hal Gaba, Valentine helped to negotiate the purchase of Concord Records, and subsequently served as liaison between Act III and Concord.<\/p>\n<p>In 2001, Valentine left Act III to join Fox Entertainment\u2019s television business development group, focusing on corporate M&amp;A and business development initiatives at Fox and its parent company News Corp.<\/p>\n<p>In 2005, he returned to Concord to become CFO and served in that capacity at the company until 2021, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/bob-valentine-promoted-to-president-of-concord-kent-hoskins-named-cfo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">when he was named President<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/concord-has-a-new-ceo-as-bob-valentine-succeeds-scott-pascucci-in-management-transition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">July 2023<\/a>, Valentine became CEO of Concord, succeeding Scott Pascucci.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Bob Valentine started his career as a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley\u2019s investment banking division.<\/p>\n<p>He received his M.B.A. from U.C.L.A.\u2019s Anderson School of Management and his undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame.<\/p>\n<p>During his career spanning nearly two decades at Concord and its predecessor entities, Valentine has helped to deploy over $1.5bn of equity and debt capital to acquire music and theatrical rights and has been a key contributor in driving Concord\u2019s growth from an $8m\/year jazz record label to a $500m+ revenue global music company.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h6>Bob Valentine: Professional philosophy<\/h6>\n<p>Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.musicbusinessworldwide.com\/concord-has-550m-in-fresh-funding-a-recent-expansion-in-australasia-and-now-a-new-ceo-whats-its-next-move\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Music Business Worldwide in a 2023 interview<\/a>, Valentine said: &#8220;I\u2019ve always thought of myself as helping to build a real music business here [at Concord], because that\u2019s what we are \u2013 not a fund, a real music business, running its own global labels, music publishing operation, theatrical licensing company, and a fledging film &amp; TV division that happens to be backed by a pension fund.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I\u2019ve always thought of myself as helping to build a real music business here [at Concord], because that\u2019s what we are \u2013 not a fund, a real music business.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bob Valentine, Concord<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;My intention is to focus on the efforts of this company to be a creative force.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He added: &#8220;Concord really doesn\u2019t need to do any deals for scale anymore, but if a certain catalog or opportunity is of such significant quality or fills a gap we don\u2019t feel we have covered we\u2019ll potentially be interested.
